- Situate far north of Myanmar in Kachin State is famous for
Myanmar snow capped icy mountains which are the descendent
from eastern Himalayan region. The local tribe who live in
this area are of Tibetan extraction of Rawan, Lisu, Tai
Hkamti, include last remaining member of the Tarong tribe.
Tarong tribe is endangered race of diminutive none of which
are more than 4 feet height. The richness of this region's
present unparalleled opportunities in the field of Tribal,
zoology, botany, forestry, ecology as well as hardy
eco-tourists who prefer the challenge of a testing
back-packing trip in the mountain fastness of Myanmar.
Machanbaw, another major village situate 19 km away from
Putao, connected by 211 meter long Malikha suspension
bridge. Next to Machanbaw is Mulashidee, 10 km away
connected with another suspension bridge and provides a
fascinating view. Day
01 Mandalay – Putao <Fri>Breakfast at hotel and transfer to airport for your Putao bound flight <approx 5 hour>. Air Bagan Flight operates every Tuesday and Friday of the week. Upon arrival meet your driver and transfer to your hotel. Lunch at local restaurant and late afternoon walking tour to Majaw Lisu village <west of Putao> about 2-hour through the paddy field. This village was very beautiful having backdrop Mt. Slimatdin with blazing snow over the horizon during sunset. Return walk also was interesting having crossing by local people, cattle, fishermen, local women and girls collecting fire wood on their head etc. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight at local guesthouse. Day 02 Putao - Machanbaw - Mulashidi - Putao < Sat >Breakfast and visit Machanbaw, leaving by jeep / truck for Naungkan village (14 mile/1 hour). Cross suspension bridge (on foot) to Machanbaw, which is a small administrative town. Lunch at local restaurant and return to Putao. Afternoon visit Mulashidi village (Lisu tribe) with suspension bridge across Mula river, which is beautiful having back round dens forest and village in the foreground with activities along the Mula river such as washing, buffalo swimming, children playing etc. Dinner and overnight at local guesthouse. Day 03 Putao - upper Shangaung - Wasandum < Sun > Breakfast and depart by jeep/truck to upper Shangaung village (10 mile/approx 1 hour). This village has inhabitant of both Lisu and Rawan tribes. Off the truck and start hike to Wasandum village through Mt. Shangaung (4800 ft) by the shoulder of Mt. Slimatdin (6020 ft). To day journey is a real testing one for this trek, as you have to ascend to 4600 ft and then descend back to 3000 ft with a distance of 12 miles. Wasandum is a small Rawan village situates by Namlan creek. Packed lunch on the way, dinner and overnight at Wasundum village. Day
04 Wasandum - Awadum - Kalang - Ziyadum < Mon >Breakfast and trek to Awadum village (approx 3 hour) after crossing Namhti creek by makeshift bridge. To day trek will be much easier compare to yesterday since this would be flat land with just a bit of ups and downs. Awadum village is mainly inhabited by Lisu tribe and separate in to two by a large paddy field. A short rest and continue walk to Kalang (Rawan tribe) after crossing a suspension bridge that span Ziya creek (approx 2 hour). On a sunny day, you will find blazing Mt. Phonyin Razi just a hand reach away. Lunch stop and continue trek to our today destination Ziyadum village through deeper and deeper evergreen forest with lush and green. Once again, we cross Ziya river over suspension bridge and reach to Ziyadum village (approx 3 hour). Ziyadum is the most northwestern and last frontier village in Myanmar, mainly resident are Rawan tribes. It is recommendable to go down to Ziya creek for wash and clean up but be ware of bloodsucking insect normally around rivers. Do not forget to bring your camera as weather keeps changing in this region and once sunshine you will see suddenly blazing white snow mountains surrounding you. Rests of the evening relax and perhaps you could read and write, as there will be electricity run by owned small hydro generator in the village. Dinner and overnight at local house. Day 05 Ziyadum < Tue > Breakfast and have a relaxing day in Ziya
village. You may simply sit by the Ziya river and enjoy the
mountain views, listen to the birds call or simply go day
return trip to Chaungzone (approx 3 hour). Chaungzone is
beautiful spot with deep evergreen forest with plenty of
bird life. You will meet local hunters, medicine seekers
etc. Packed lunch at Chaungzone camp, dinner and overnight
at Ziyadum. |
